Tolethorpe (Yr 5)
Welcome back to Summer Term 6 in Tolethorpe Class
Welcome back to the final term of Year 5! The term is going to be a shorter one with only 6 weeks to cover the planned curriculum. I will be with the class for the first four weeks then I hand over to Miss Kime who, following getting married just before returning from maternity leave, will be re-joining us as Mrs Grant. Congratulations and best wishes from us all!
The previous term had seen the children settle into a full term without disruptions, which made a huge difference to what they were able to achieve. They made good progress in many areas of the curriculum including Maths, English, Art, Dance, Geography and Science. The children immersed themselves into the world of Jules Verne writing some super non-chronological reports and have mastered decimals in Maths. They have enjoyed the beginning of Frank Cottrell-Boyce’s 'Cosmic', which we will continue this term. The term was rounded off by our incredible 'Memory Making Week', during which, the children enjoyed all the things they had missed from their normal school experience due to lockdown. This included taking part in a whole school art project where the children designed and made clay tiles for a mural. Our May dance will be shared shortly along with a special vocal surprise from the whole school. A wonderful time was had by all, as the diaries, photos and videos prove.
The term ahead is varied and exciting, with plenty of great opportunities to enhance the curriculum. These include an orienteering competition and preparing a class assembly for parents on 29th June (more details and a Zoom invitation to follow). The term will also include a programme of transition activities for the class with their new teachers, so that they are prepared for their important final year in Primary Education. End of year reports will also be sent before the end of term.
For more details of our learning for this term, please see the Medium Term Theme Plan for Parents in the documents below, with a focus on 'Earth and Space'.
I very much hope that this final term of the year will continue with minimum disruption so that the children really build on all they have learned previously and acquire new skills and knowledge.
I will continue to keep you up to date with our learning developments and give general messages and reminders out on Class Dojo. 'Knowledge Organisers' which are available for key subjects continue to be available on Class Dojo. These contain some key facts regarding our term's learning; it is important for children to know these - these can be used for homework as well as within class. I will make sure any independent home based learning (homework) is set on Seesaw.
I continue to value working in partnership with you, so please do keep in touch. If you have any problems at all, please contact me via Class Dojo or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
